KIWANIS PEANUT DAY
Our annual fundraiser in September THSTH

As the old Travelog series was winding down, our Club was in need of a new fundraiser to supplement our receipts from Pancake & Sausage Day. In 1973, our Club, along with the local Circle K and Key Clubs, sponsored the first "Peanuts For Kids Day", the forerunner of today's Peanut Day event.

Based on a program supported by Kiwanis International, the Club gives out packets of Kiwanis peanuts in exchange for donations. The 1973 event netted $1,167.43. The proceeds were earmarked specifically for youth programs. Through the years this program has increased in popularity. In fact, two such events were held during the 1988-1989 Kiwanis year.

The proceeds are placed entirely in our Club's foundation account where they are used for any of our charitable grants and contributions. Along with the contributions from the public, several Kiwanians and businesses underwrite the cost of the peanuts. Our workers are typically stationed on College Avenue at the Mauvaisterre and Sandy intersections, at County Market, FoodCo and the entrance to Lincoln Square Shopping Center.
