KIWANIS ANNUAL PICNIC
Held each year in the summer
fgbf

In 1928, our Club began the practice of hosting an annual family picnic for its membership. For the first several years, the event was staged at Kiwanis Hut, a small building erected by the Club on the shore of Lake Mauvaisterre. That building was sold to MacMurray College in 1937 and was used by its students for many years, becoming known locally as the Mac Cabin. Today, the building Kiwanis constructed in 1927 is owned by the Jacksonville CB Radio Club.

In later years the picnic was held on C.L. Rowe's farm, and then came to Nicholc Park where it remained until this year when a new idea was introduced. The 2004 event took place in the new Community Park Center and features a catered meal, cotton candy, games for the kids and military displays by Kiwanis veterans.

One special tradition for those who attend our picnic is bingo. We can trace its beginnings with this event to at least 1939 and continues today to be enjoyed by Kiwanians, spouses and family members.
