SENIOR CITIZENS VANS
Donated to the Prairie Council on Aging

One of our largest single commitments ever was in helping the Prairie Council on Aging purchase a seven-passenger van to be used for the local senior citizens bus service. Proposed and championed by our late Kiwanian Clyde York, the Club voted in May of 1993 to provide $10,000.00 for this purpose in four annual installments of $2,500.00.

The service provides free local transportation to Jacksonville seniors and is still in daily use.

In July of 1998, Kiwanis voted again to assist the Council in purchasing a second van (pictured above). Our Club donated $5,100.00 over two years to help secure this vehicle, a 15-passenger model. It began in service in October. Along with local runs it also transports seniors to many neighboring towns, including Springfield.

Because of their dedicated service to Jacksonville seniors through the years, this van was dedicated to our late Kiwanians Dick Freudenberg and Clyde York. This dedication is printed on the sides of the vehicle next to the Kiwanis symbol. A close-up is visible in the photo below.
