A. Wadsworth Applebee

A. Wadsworth Applebee followed his father into Kiwanis in 1946 and served as District Governor in 1959, making him a proud member of the “Finer 59ers.” He was International Chairman twice. In addition to his service to Kiwanis, he was a MacMurray College Trustee, an active member of the Human Relations Commission and the Boy Scouts. He was the first Eagle Scout in what is now Troop 107. He served on many boards and was President of the Boards of Passavant Area Hospital, the Y.M.C.A. and the Jacksonville Area Chamber of Commerce, and chaired the United Way Campaign.

Waddy was generous with his time and money and helped many individuals and groups in the true spirit of altruism.

For all these reasons, the Jacksonville Kiwanis Club decided to honor Waddy by establishing the Community Service Award in his honor and modeled after his life. The award is an annual event to recognize a young adult between the ages of 21 and 35, who has demonstrated devotion to civic volunteer service, thereby benefitting the Jacksonville area.
