Welcome to the home page of the WILLIAM C. DEEM/KIWANIS SCIENCE AWARD. This recognition has been created to honor academic excellence and scholastic achievement. It is presented annually in May to the top science student at Jacksonville High School in Jacksonville, Illinois. The first such award was presented in May, 2002.

As the recipents are about to take a bold new step into the world of higher education, the family of William C. Deem and the Kiwanis Club of Jacksonville are pleased to provide a scholarship check to help defray college expenses.

This site has been designed to give background information about this award, the criteria established for selection of recipients, the people and organizations which made it possible, the Kiwanis Club which sponsors it and the man for whom the award has been named.

Boy Scouting was one of Bill Deem's major interests. When reciting that organization's oath, a Scout promises to "Do My Best." We charge the recipients to accept that challenge and continue to strive for excellence in their future years. By following the example set by Bill Deem and striving to be the best one can be in every situation, the recipients' natural abilities will shine forth even more brightly.
